About goMobi

  • What is goMobi?

goMobi is a mobile website builder that makes your customers’ businesses easily available to mobile users. Millions of people are now using their mobile phones to surf the Internet and look for information and services. goMobi ensures they can easily find your customers' businesses anywhere, anytime. Thanks to its intuitive and easy-to-use interface, your customers can build a mobile website quickly and easily, and their customers get immediate access on their mobile phone to all the key information about the business.

  • What's the benefit to me of selling goMobi?

The mobile web is undergoing huge growth: in the past year alone, web traffic from mobile devices increased 148% globally. Over 50% of SMB’s surveyed in 2009 stated they are looking at implementing a mobile website in the next 12 months (research conducted by HFI on behalf of dotMobi, 2009).

By offering goMobi, you can be a part of this growth, and at the wholesale cost of just $2.50 per month, there's lots of room for you to offer the service at a competitive price and benefit from great margins.

  • What's the benefit to my customer of buying goMobi?

goMobi lets your customers' businesses reach a broader audience. Recent studies show that the mobile web is the place to be: 43% of consumers use their browser to access the internet on their phone, and 68% of consumers indicated that if they knew a website had a ‘made-for-mobile’ version, they would make a point to visit it over the standard website (research conducted by HFI on behalf of dotMobi, 2009). Of mobile users that had a bad experience on a website (e.g. navigation was difficult because the site wasn't optimized for mobile browsing), 61% said they would not revisit the site.

You can help your customers ensure they aren't missing out on the growing mobile audience by offering goMobi and giving them a way to build mobile websites quickly and easily.

  • How are mobile Web sites different than PC sites?

Mobile websites are built to accommodate mobile devices and their users to provide the best possible experience to users. In addition to adapting to the smaller screen of a mobile phone, they are also made easier to navigate using touch or a keypad, and provide more direct access to the information that a customer is more likely to need while on the go.

Even on high-end smartphones with large touch-screens, mobile websites are specifically designed to operate in a context relevant to the needs of mobile users. For example, a user on the go can use the unique features of the mobile phone call the business directly using the one-touch ‘call us’ feature, and then get directions to the business using the GPS-enabled ‘find us’ feature.

  • How does goMobi help to increase a site’s visibility in mobile search engines?

The goMobi site is built using good practice recommendations, as outlined in Google’s Search Engine Optimization Guide, which include creation of a sitemap, well defined page titles and descriptions, optimized site structure for navigation, good URL structure, optimized robots.txt, and site submission to directories.

In addition, the customer can provide keywords for their business, which are used to assist search engines to rank the site’s relevance to an end user’s search request. Links to social network sites will also assist in this process.

  • What kind of features does goMobi as a mobile website builder have?

What kind of features can a goMobi site have? Your customers can use any and all of the following features on their goMobi sites:

Selling goMobi with OpenSRS

  • What do I need to start selling goMobi?

To sell goMobi with OpenSRS, we recommend you already have the following in place:

    • Experience providing Internet services to customers (e.g. hosting packages, consulting services, web design)
    • A good understanding of the web including how DNS works, how websites work, and a familiarity with web-based interfaces
    • A way to collect payment from your customers for services you provide

As an OpenSRS Reseller you can also sell all our other services: domains, hosted email, and SSL certificates.

  • How is goMobi billed?

We bill you monthly, on a per-subscription basis. Your reseller account will be debited $2.50 for each active goMobi subscription monthly, on the day of the month that the subscription began. With our goMobi free trial offer, the first month of service is not billed. You may cancel the goMobi subscription at anytime during the first month and you will not be billed for that first month of service. For example, if you provision a goMobi subscription on June 5, you will not be billed for the first month (June 5 - July 4), and on July 5 you will be billed $2.50 for the upcoming month (July 5 - August 4).

  • What should I charge my customers and how does payment work?

As a reseller, what you charge and how you collect is up to you. Some resellers may choose to bill their customers on a monthly basis and offer goMobi as a value-added monthly subscription. The average retail selling price for goMobi seems to be around $7 - $10 per month, so we recommend selling at somewhere in that range. Others may choose to charge a one-time setup fee in the hundreds of dollars range with no recurring monthly fees.

Regardless of how much you charge and whether it's a monthly fee or a one-time fee, collecting payment from your customers is entirely up to you. We strongly recommend that you have a means of collection in place, be it cash, paper invoices or a full payment processor integration, before becoming a Reseller.

  • How can I convince my customers to buy goMobi?

We have a number of marketing resources available to help you position, market, and sell goMobi including:

    • Ready-to-go email campaigns
    • Pre-coded HTML landing pages with Flash videos
    • White-label sales collateral ready to be printed

View all the goMobi marketing resources here

In most cases, we suggest you cross-sell goMobi as a value-added service through whatever channels your customers currently use. For example, if you're a hosting company, we recommend you add goMobi as an option in your customers' control panel. If you're a web designer, you might want to upsell goMobi as an add-on service to your current offerings.

  • How many sites can I build?

As many as you like! Your wholesale cost is $2.50 per month, per subscription, whether you build one or a hundred goMobi sites.

  • How does the free trial work ?

Each goMobi site you provision is free for the first month. We encourage you to extend this free trial to your customers by setting them up with a trial site on a subdomain of your site (e.g. customertrial.yoursite.mobi). After 30 days you will be billed on a monthly basis, so you should encourage your customers to move to a paid service, or cancel the subscription before the end of the trial period.

See the step-by-step instructions on setting up your free trial.

Using goMobi

  • Where will my customers go to buy or manage their goMobi subscription?

If you give your customers the ability to manage their own goMobi subscriptions (i.e. to create and change their own goMobi sites, versus managing content for them), your customers will manage their sites at OpenSRS' unbranded control panel at [your-reseller-id].domainadmin.com. This control panel is completely free of any OpenSRS branding.

  • How do I provision a goMobi subscription?

We have a step-by-step screencast here showing you how to provision a new subscription.

  • Does goMobi require a .mobi domain name?

goMobi does not require a .mobi domain name. However, it is recommended to use a .mobi domain for a mobile website, to communicate to the end user that the site is mobile friendly, and to assist search engines to recognize it as a mobile site.

  • If the source site is changed to a different site, or modifications are made, how quickly is this reflected on the goMobi site?

The source site content is only used to populate the site the first time. Therefore changing the source site to a different site will have no effect, since the user would have confirmed their settings via the goMobi Setup Assistant. If they have not confirmed their settings, then content from the new source site will be available in minutes.

If the goMobi site includes links to content on the source site, then changes to the content on the source site have immediate effect on the content of the goMobi site.

  • How long does it take to make a goMobi site?

Your customers can build a site in as little as five minutes using goMobi's ability to automatically scrape content off an existing site.

  • Is an existing website required for goMobi to work?

goMobi can be set up as a standalone website, although we suggest it works best as a complement to an existing website, not as a standalone site. In either case, a domain name is required for goMobi to work.

  • Can my customers use goMobi to accept online purchases?

No - goMobi is designed to provide mobile users with the most relevant information about a business, and is best-suited as a complementary site to the full desktop site. It is not equipped to process online payments, and there is no native payment gateway integration.

goMobi is designed to be easy to set up and manage, and is ideal for small businesses looking to build a presence on the mobile web with minimal time and resources. Businesses looking for more in-depth customization or a fully-integrated payment processor for online purchase orders may not find goMobi to be adequate.

  • Are there any terms of service/conditions of use I need to make my customers aware of?

Yes - all users of the goMobi service are bound by this agreement. This is also available on our Agreements page in the Resource Center.
