Webinar: The New OpenSRS API Toolkits

Integration is easier than ever

OpenSRS has released new API Toolkits that will allow developers to more quickly integrate with the OpenSRS API. These new code libraries, available in PHP and Ruby, make interacting with the OpenSRS API easier, and assist developers who are creating web sites and applications that connect to OpenSRS.

Claire Lam, Manager of Implementation Services, OpenSRS, and the developer of the PHP API Toolkit, along with Jonathan Clarke, Implementation Specialist, will introduce the new API Toolkits, explain how they work, and talk about the thinking behind them.

This webinar is aimed at developers who are currently working with the OpenSRS API and developers who would like to learn more about our API. To learn more about the new OpenSRS API Toolkits in advance of the the webinar, visit the OpenSRS Forums and view this thread in the Developer/API area.

Some common questions from this webinar

  1. Where can I get the code?
Visit http://www.opensrs.com/resources/apitoolkit/ to get the latest version of the code and documentation. The Developer/API section of the OpenSRS Forums is also a great place to get help and to learn more about the Toolkits and how to work with them.
  2. Which other languages are you planning to support with toolkits?
Right now we offer a PHP version and an alpha release of a Ruby version. These two were the languages we thought would be most in demand. We're definitely looking at creating Python, Java, and other languages in the future.
  3. Does this have anything to do with the code that's on Sourceforge? Was it built using it, on top of it?
The code on Sourceforge isn't related to these toolkits.
  4. Is there support for working with managing SSL certificates?
Not right now, but in the future, when SSL is rolled into the XCP API, the Toolkits will add support for SSL.
  5. Any chance we'll see support for package managers - like Ruby Gems, for example?
It's definitely something we're looking into right now. There hasn't been any decisions made around Gems just yet.
  6. How easy is it to integrate with payment provides like Worldpay, Paypal, etc.
The Toolkits are made in such a way that it makes it easy to extend them with your own functionality. Integrations with e-commerce carts, or payment gateways isn't part of the Toolkit, but it is designed to make it easier to do that.
