General Availability: $25 for second level (i.e. example.co) $13 for third level (i.e. example.com.co)
Local Sunrise: $165 non-refundable application fee (covers trademark application) + $25 Registration Fee (if name is awarded, includes 1-year registration)
Global Sunrise: $205 non-refundable application fee (covers trademark application) + $25 Registration Fee (if name is awarded, includes 1-year registration)
Landrush: $5 non-refundable application fee + $220 Registration Fee (if name is awarded, includes 1-year registration)

OpenSRS was selected as one of just ten .CO accredited registrars by .CO Internet SAS, the operator of the .CO domain registry.

OpenSRS is pleased to be able to offer .CO domains to all OpenSRS Resellers who will be able to participate in all phases of the .CO launch.

All OpenSRS Resellers are automatically able to sell .CO domains beginning with Local Sunrise for Colombian Trademark holders, and continuing through Global Sunrise, Landrush and General Availability when .CO domains are available on a first come, first served basis to the general public.

July 20 23:44 UTC: We've issued the latest update on status page that explains what's happening with Dead Zone, Landrush, and GA Pre- orders in more detail.

General Availability Pre-Orders Now Being Accepted: You can submit pre-orders for General Availability through OpenSRS and we'll automatically submit them once the registry opens on July 20, 2010. Submitting a pre-order does not guarantee registration.

General Availability Pre-Orders:

According to the .CO Registry, General Availability will begin on Tuesday, July 20th, at 2:00 pm EDT (18:00UTC).

PLEASE NOTE: We will stop taking General Availability Pre-orders at 10:00am EDT (14:00UTC) on Tuesday, July 20th. Nothing submitted to pending after that will be submitted automatically at launch. All names submitted before that time will be submitted automatically.

Additionally, in order to optimize the queue and to maximize the number of successful General Availability orders, we will be attempting to secure the name first, and then, if we are successful, we'll assign the proper contact information. The temporary contact will use Tucows contact information. DO NOT PANIC if you or your customers see Tucows listed as the registrant - be patient, and the proper information will be added to the record soon after.

Landrush Update:

Landrush has now concluded and we will be inserting successful .CO orders into OpenSRS accounts as we receive the names from the registry. As previously announced, names with multiple applications during the Landrush phase will go to auction. More details on the auctions will be forthcoming, but the .CO Registry will be contacting auction participants directly with bidding information.

NEW! Auctions

.CO Internet SAS has published the policies and procedures for the auction process. In the event that more than one applicant submits a valid registration in either of the sunrise periods or in the landrush phase, the domain in question will go into an auction where those applicants who had valid applications for the domain will be able to bid against each other for ownership of the domain.

More information is available in the .CO Auction Guide (PDF). In summary:

  • The auctions process (bidding, payment, etc.) will take place at www.COauctions.co and the auctions will be run by Pool.com.
  • Affected registrants will be notified directly by the .CO Registry and Pool.com about any auction proceedings taking place.
  • If a reseller facilitates an order that results in the WINNING BID at an auction, they will earn 2.5% of the final selling price.
  • If a reseller facilitates an order that results in valid bids but doesn't win, they will still earn a small commission. The commission amount is variable, as it is spread among all registrars that facilitated all bidders.
  • Auctions are held at the end of each period (Local Sunrise, Global Sunrise and Landrush)

Launch Schedule

The launch of the .CO domain extension has four stages:

  1. Local Sunrise (April 1 - April 20) - COMPLETED:
     This phase is for Colombian trademark holders with exact match domain names registered prior to July 30, 2008. This allows companies with Colombian trademarks to apply for their desired domain or domains and secure their trademarks. Matching domains will go to auction.
  2. Global Sunrise (April 26 - June 10) - COMPLETED:
     This phase is for trademark holders with exact match domain names registered prior to July 30, 2008. This allows companies to apply for their desired domain or domains and secure their trademarks. Matching domains will go to auction.
  3. Landrush (June 21 - July 16 - COMPLETED:
     Landrush takes place from the end of June through mid-July, and will be open to anyone interested in registering domain names of high commercial value. Any interest in matching domains will go to auction.
  4. General Availability (July 20) - Pre-orders now being accepted:
     Once the Global Sunrise and Landrush processes are complete, .CO domains will become available to anyone in the world through participating registrars. Except where otherwise reserved by the .CO Registry or earmarked for premium auctions, .CO domains will be available to the public based on the chronological order of registrations on a first come, first served basis.
