Join us at the Parallels EMEA Partner Forum 2010

Ben Reuss, OpenSRS

We are delighted to be once again sponsoring the Parallels EMEA Partner Forum after a very successful and fun show last year. We are hoping you can join us this year. Ben Reuss, our Business Development Manager (EMEA) will be in each city and looks forward to greeting you.

The Parallels EMEA Partner Forum takes place in six locations across Europe from October 12-28. It is great opportunity to learn how to leverage Parallels technology to enable new Cloud Services, and how to become a “one-stop” shop for customers.  These are all one-day events followed by a networking cocktail hour.

Here are the cities and dates:

  • Munich (October 12)
  • Amsterdam (October 14)
  • Madrid (October 19)
  • Warsaw (October 21)
  • Paris (October 26)
  • London (October 28)

Registration for this event is free, so come out and say hi. Visit our events page to learn more or to register.

HostingCon 2010 is coming up!

Service Guy at HostingCon 2009

It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost a full year since HostingCon 2009, but HostingCon 2010 is only two months away, and the early-bird registration is now open! If you’re not familiar with it, HostingCon is the largest gathering of hosting professionals in the world. This year it’s in Austin, Texas, and OpenSRS will be exhibiting there! Web 2.0 Expo San Francisco Wrap-Up

Last week some of the OpenSRS team headed out to San Francisco to attend the Web 2.0 Expo. This was a new experience for OpenSRS – it was our first time sponsoring this show, and we were able to meet a lot of new folks in the social media space. It was great to converse with people who hadn’t considered (or hadn’t explored fully) adding domain sales to their business.  It was fun to introduce ourselves, and explain what we do at OpenSRS.

When we weren’t at the booth talking to the large crowds of people in the exhibition hall, we dropped into some of the great sessions going on at the Expo. Between the four different ‘tracks’: Design & User Experience, Social Media Marketing, Strategy & Business Models, and Development, there was a wealth of knowledge, and something for everyone. There were also some influential keynote speakers from companies such as I Can Has Cheezburger, Smule, and TED Conferences.

My Name is URL

Q&A with Ken after his session
The Web 2.0 Expo was also exciting for us because in our sponsored session Ken Schafer, EVP Products for OpenSRS, presented for the first time My Name is URL – Namespaces & Revenue Models”. This presentation looked at the importance of namespaces as online identities, and encouraged Web 2.0 companies to consider unique and meaningful namespaces as an innovative way to enhance user experience and increase revenue. This session was so well-received that we are repeating it in an upcoming webinar on May 27th! We’d love to have you join us if you missed our presentation or wanted to invite some of your other team members.

Our OpenSRS Service Guy also made an appearance – he was the hottest swag giveaway of the show! There are some pictures of him on Flickr, and we expect many more to pop up over the next while as the attendees post their photos.

So we’d like to thank everyone that we met at the Expo, as well as everyone that was involved in helping make Web 2.0 Expo a great success for us. We hope you enjoyed the show as much as we did!

Drumbeat building an Open Web

Mozilla Foundation’s Drumbeat is gaining momentum. Drumbeat.org aims to use Mozilla’s experiences (open source community development and hacker ethic) to support and develop the Web. Their most recent event was held this past weekend was well attended by all different kinds of people from seasoned Internet veterans to average people with a passion for the Internet and the Web.

Drumbeat is a movement combining projects and events focused on making the web better, using open-source DNA and Know-How and focusing on “maker culture” and “building”.  Their goal is to engage a wider global audience in the active discussion and participation building an open web. The One Web Day team recently joined forces with Mozilla Drumbeat and at OpenSRS, we’re huge supporters of their initiatives and happy to carry over our support to Mozilla Drumbeat. If you’re interested in the Open Web, you’ll want to consider getting involved.

My OpenSRS colleagues and our resellers are often early adopters and proponents of all things Internet. We are the ambassadors who can engage others in our careers, families and neighbourhoods. A Tucows core values is “the Internet is the greatest agent for positive change the world has ever seen”. Drumbeat is built on that vision too. Will the web still be open in 100 years? What is your vision of the Internet? How can you help build it? In true Mozilla fashion, the brainstorm of “What is the open Web” can be found on their wiki.

About Drumbeat

Anyone can volunteer or suggest a Drumbeat project. Two projects that might be of interest to Resellers are P2PU: creating an Open Web Developer Degree and Web Made Movies: a video series highlighting people who are building an open, participatory Internet.

To spread the word about Drumbeat projects and build the open web movement, Drumbeat includes events across the world. Previous events were held in Rio and San Paulo, Brazil. At the recent Toronto event, the day included small scrum-like discussions on how to explain the open web to diverse audiences and topical discussions ranging from open source activism to MESH networks to HTML5 Video Players to building the Drumbeat.org community.
