.COM logoOur history as a Registrar is connected to the rise of .COM. This TLD was one of the first available beginning in 1985. A decade later, Network Solutions, the registry operator at the time, started charging for it just as the Internet exploded. We are very proud of our legacy as one of the first registrars to competitively sell .COM; in January 2000, we sold our very first .COM domain, which was slashhosting.com (now parked). Since that time, we have grown to be the third largest registrar in the world and .COM remains the largest, most recognized TLD.

As a global TLD, you will find .COM sold in every corner of the world and for every use. It was initially started as a “company domain”, but you will find that its popularity knows no boundaries. Here are some unique examples: charities, Geek sites, sports talent, travel, gardening, large businesses and small businesses.

  • Since Q3 2007, .COM has maintained a resolution rate of 89%: the number and percentage of registered .COM domains that are resolving (working or “in use”) since this implies that someone is selling value-added services: hosting packages, email, digital certificates, shopping carts, etc.
  • 71% renewal rate – first-time renewals are key; when someone renews once, they are more likely to renew the domain name again – and require the necessary value-added services.
